Los Angeles Dodgers Peppy Piña Colada Drink Recipe

Updated: Oct 19, 2020

Do you like piña coladas? What about getting caught in the rain? Are you a true blue Los Angeles Dodgers fan? Do you bleed Dodger blue? Can you smell the coconut? How about the pineapple and salty, ocean air? Oh yeah, then you might want to grab some beach chairs for the full tropical paradise effect.

There is nothing better than sitting on the beach with a cold piña colada in your hand! But even when you can’t escape to the beach, you can enjoy a delicious, healthy version of a piña colada right at home, and not just any typical piña colada drink, we're talking about a Dodgers piña colada.

You can’t get any more tropical than the piña colada, a cocktail that encapsulates the fruity flavors of the Caribbean and evokes thoughts of swaying palm trees and glorious sunsets. Couple that with Amercia's favorite pastime and one of the true cathedrals of baseball, home to some of the most noteworthy moments in baseball history, unforgettable special events, and the iconic Dodger Dog and the marriage is beyond compare.

In its simplest terms, the piña colada is a cocktail made of rum, pineapple juice and coconut cream or coconut milk. It can either be served blended or shaken over ice and is garnished with a slice of pineapple and a maraschino cherry. The name means "strained pineapple" in Spanish, referring to freshly squeezed and strained pineapple juice.

Going by name recognition alone, you could argue that the piña colada is one of the most popular cocktails of all-time. It has long been synonymous with summertime, the subject of song lyrics, movies and even politics. It’s the national drink of Puerto Rico, after all.  Like the cocktail daiquiri, it is often dismissed as an overly sweet, tropical drink that might be fit for spring breakers, but not grown-ups who are serious about their cocktails. The difference is a Daiquiri is just simply not appreciated. The traditional version is balanced, tart, and self-respecting.

A piña colada actually is pretty much what people imagine, a sweet, slushy, blend of rum, coconut and tropical juice (pineapple to be exact).  But that doesn’t mean it isn’t totally delicious. In the sweltering heat, if made with proper balance (including the ice) and a bit of citrus juice to counter the sweetness, a Piña Colada is everything you hope it would be, a Caribbean vacation in a glass. Nothing hits the spot quite like it.

Ingredients:

  1. 5 ounces drained canned pineapple chunks.

  2. 1 3/4 ounces coconut cream

  3. 1 ounce simple syrup

  4. 2 1/2 ounces of Bacardi Superior White Rum

  5. 4 ounces ice cubes

  6. 1 maraschino cherry, for garnish

Directions:

  1. In a blender or magic bullet, combine pineapple, coconut cream and simple syrup.

  2. Add and mix in rum and ice and blend until thick and slushy.

  3. Pour into a large glass, garnish with pineapple and/or a maraschino cherry, and serve.
